Rant About My Lousy But Expensive Health Insurance

OK, my husband just asked me to redo my password for my health insurance site. Jeez, this health care crap in the biggest pain on every level and we basically get NOTHING unless someone literally throws us in front of a bus. My blood pressure is going up right now.  It would be so much easier if someone did push me in front of a bus.  I was feeling great, and now we have to figure out some mess with our health insurance that is not going to make any difference at all with our coverage, which is basically nothing.  I pay 1000.00 bucks a month for NOTHING.  And I am VERY HEALTHY.  What the hell??????  I guess I'm paying for a bunch of young schmucks that refuse to work or take care of themselves.

This began as a really nice bit, though scattered, and ended up with complaints.  It's all the fault of the health insurance.  I am fortunate that I can pay for sick visits - well, ALL visits - and all my medicine.  I am not sick often, knock on wood.  Last year, as it has ever since I quit teaching, my insurance paid for most of my pelvic exam and mammogram and blood work.  This year, it will pay NOTHING.  I will hand BCBS 12 grand and it will give me NOTHING.  Repeat ad nauseum until something wears out and I have to be hospitalized, but then it will not pay for the doctor or surgeries; only the hospital stay.

So let's assume I develop high blood pressure like both my parents did in their 60s.  I get put on BP meds, which insurance doesn't cover.  Let's say at 70 I have a small stroke and have to be hospitalized for 5 days.  I am 54.  I have paid 1 grand a year - but it will probably go up by that time - for 16 years. That's 168 THOUSAND  dollars.  That is 33,600 dollars for every day in the hospital. And that's not the doctor, the meds, the ER, or putting up with all the damn blood drawing and waking you up in the middle of the night. Again, I say, What the hell?????
